Volcano Village near Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park

Volcano Village is a small artists’ community of roughly 2000 residents located just outside of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. At 3000 to 4000 feet altitude, the town of Volcano and most of the Volcanoes National Park enjoy a cooler climate. Volcano Village is situated on a small loop that diverts away from the highway, secluding it from highway noise and traffic. Local business includes small shops, two grocery/gas stations, and restaurants.

Volcano Village – An Artists’ Community…and So Much More

Just five minutes from the entrance to Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park on Highway 11, Volcano Village is much more than just a bump in the road. Volcano Village is home to many independent spirits including notable artists working in pigment, ceramics, and glass-blowing. Volcano Village attracts those seeking peace and inspiration among the flowering Ohia Lehua and stands of towering pine. Farmers, artists, writers, philosophers, and scientists, those of a creative or independent bent; make their home in Volcano Village and enrich it with their visions.

A stop in Volcano Village is a chance to browse galleries of fantastic and creative local art, browse the fresh cut flowers, locally grown vegetables, and fresh baked goods at the Sunday morning farmers’ market at Cooper’s Center on Wright Road, enjoy a delicious meal at one of our restaurants, or even just to stretch your legs.

Volcano Village may be small but we’ve plenty to do and see – you can play a round at the Volcano Golf Course, visit Volcano Winery for a tasting, view beautiful, traditional and modern Hawaiian arts at Volcano Art Center, and so much more.

Kilaueau Volcano – Star of the Show

Of course, the big draw is Kilauea Volcano! If that’s your goal – a day spent exploring Kilauea or a night for the monthly After Dark in the Park excursion, Volcano Village is your go-to place for snacks, water, sunscreen, flashlights, gas for the drive back to your hotel, and any other sundries you may find yourself wanting.

Kilauea Lodge is in the heart of Volcano Village and the commercial district is within easy walking distance of the lodge.
