It’s that time of year again when the community and visitors of Volcano celebrates the 4th of July parade. Whether you’re a part of the parade or even a spectator, there’s no doubt in saying that this is one of Volcano’s shining moments. The parade starts right next to the Volcano Store at 9:00 am, goes through the village and ends at Cooper Center. There are a variety of participants in the parade including our amazingly talented Hawaii County Band, Volcanoes National Park volunteers and employees, KDEN (The Kilauea Drama Entertainment Network) members, and even the Humane Society.
Once you arrive to Cooper Center, it is filled with a variety of local vendors selling jewelry and food of all kind. In addition, there is always amazing entertainment from local Hawaiian music to a preview of KDEN’s summer musical the “Music Man”. Hence, KDEN will perform some of their songs that will be in the show opening July 8, 2016 at the KMC theater. This is a great family friendly event and has something for everyone of all ages to enjoy!
Also, keep in mind there is plenty of room at Kilauea Lodge if you feel like watching the fabulous parade. You can pull up a chair or even yet, bring a blanket to sit on and watch the floats and groups pass by. After, enjoy a game of croquet on the front lawn. As a reminder, we are open for breakfast from 7:30 am to 10:00 am, lunch from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and dinner from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Finally, in the evening, take a drive to Hawaii Volcanoes National park and see the glow from Halema’uma’u crater. Talk about mother natures own fireworks! So, come in and help Volcano celebrate the 4th of July! Have a spectacular Independence day!
